Safety in Laboratories and Laboratory Construction and Design Standards Explained

This course is the only laboratory safety course that takes participants on a guided and in-depth examination of AS/NZS 2243 Safety in Laboratories and AS 2982 Laboratory Design and Construction standards. We have delivered this course to over 5,000 people in Australia and overseas and received excellent feedback. The course is designed to provide participants with a detailed understanding of the Australian Standards covering laboratories, to enhance the participant's awareness of hazards and relevant control measures and to apply the Australian Standards using in-depth practical training.

DAY 2 - AS/NZS 2243.6 Plant and Equipment; AS/NZS 2243.4 and 5 Ionising and Non-Ionising Radiation, Electrical Safety and AS/NZS 2243.8 and 9 Fumehoods and Recirculating fume cabinets

DAY 3 - AS 2243.2 Chemical Aspects and Storage, Practical Laboratory Auditing Exercises and Practical Application of the Standards in a working laboratory.

COURSE DETAILS 

WHO SHOULD ATTEND THIS COURSE:  This course is designed for anyone who has an Occupational Health and Safety responsibility in a laboratory situation, such as laboratory managers, laboratory supervisors, laboratory health and safety representatives, OHS Consultants and Facilities/Property Services Managers.

MATERIALS SUPPLIED - All relevant course materials. Disposable lab coats and safety glasses will be available for use, however, if you wear prescription safety glasses then please bring them along. Electronic access to AS/NZS2243 Safety in Laboratories for the duration of the course.

REFRESHMENTS -  Lunch, morning and afternoon teas are provided on all three days.  

IMPORTANT INFORMATION  - As participants will be undertaking a session in the laboratories so participants will be required to wear enclosed shoes (ballet flats, sandals or open-toed shoes etc ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.) and long pants.

Safety in School Laboratories - Chemical and Laboratory Safety (1 day)

This course is designed for anyone who has an occupational health and safety responsibility in the school laboratory environment. This includes teaching staff involved with science and technology studies, science coordinators, and laboratory technicians with responsibility for science laboratories, and health and safety representatives. 

This course will provide  participants with a detailed understanding of the legislative compliance issues pertaining to schools, to enhance the participant’s awareness of hazards, risk management, and control methodologies as applied to schools and to provide specific practical training in the OHS issues pertaining to laboratory safety in the school environment.
